A safety rule for every OLX seller

A well-known trick on classifieds sites goes like this: a "buyer" messages you about your listing and then asks you to read out a code that just arrived by SMS, often claiming it is needed for delivery or payment. That code may actually be a login or verification code for your account, or for a new account in your name.

Never share an SMS code with anyone who contacts you about a listing. Real buyers do not need it. Keeping your OLX verification on a separate NumberFlare number helps, because those messages stay out of your personal inbox, but the rule still applies to every code you receive.

The OLX code is missing. What now?

• Wait the full 20 minutes. Some messages queue at the carrier.
