Getting the +351 format right

Portuguese numbers have nine digits and no trunk zero. Mobile numbers start with 9, and landlines usually start with 2, such as 21 for Lisbon and 22 for Porto.

When a form asks for your number:

• With a country selector, pick Portugal (+351) and type the nine digits as shown.
• With a single field, write +351 directly in front of the nine digits.
• Never add an extra 0. If the app says the number is too long, that is usually why.

Messages to a Portuguese number often arrive in Portuguese. You will see words like "código" (code) next to the digits you need. Copy only the number sequence; the Portuguese wording around it can be ignored.

When the code doesn't show up

A missing code is rarely a dead end. Work through this list:

• Give it the full 20 minutes. Some apps queue messages before sending them.
• Confirm the app accepts virtual numbers at all. Some services refuse them, and Instant OTP refunds you when that happens.
• Avoid pressing "resend" repeatedly, which can lock the number out on the app's side.
• Come back a little later and request a new +351 number for the same service.

Is a one-time code enough, or do you need a second phone number?

The deciding factor is simple: will this number matter to you a month from now?

If the answer is no, Instant OTP is the lighter choice. It covers a single sign-up, a QA test, or keeping your personal number private on a new service.

If the answer is yes, get a Cloud Number. Password resets, two-factor login, a number printed on a business card, or calls from Portuguese clients all depend on a second phone number that stays under your control. A one-time OTP number cannot do that job.
