Get a +256 Uganda Number for Codes, Calls and Texts
You can get a Uganda (+256) number with NumberFlare either for a single verification code through Instant OTP, from $0.20 per code, or as a Cloud Number you keep for calls and SMS, from $1.95/month. Instant OTP is ready as soon as your wallet is funded; a Ugandan Cloud Number is handled on request, with our team confirming availability, price and any required address or ID check.
Instant OTP vs a Uganda Cloud Number at a glance
Both products give you a +256 number. What differs is how long you hold it and what it can do.
Instant OTP - Purpose: receive one SMS code for one service - Lifetime: a 20-minute window - Cost: from $0.20 per code, charged only if the code arrives - Setup: immediate, no paperwork.
Cloud Number - Purpose: a lasting line for calls, SMS, voicemail and forwarding - Lifetime: as long as it renews from your wallet - Cost: from $1.95/month - Setup: requested from the dashboard, then confirmed by our team
A useful rule: if losing access to the number next month would lock you out of something important, you want a Cloud Number. If not, Instant OTP is the lighter choice.

How do I receive SMS online on a +256 number?
- Register at /signup using your email, then enter the 6-digit confirmation code.
- Add funds to your wallet. Buying is unlocked after the first top-up.
- In Instant OTP, search for the service and set the country to Uganda.
- Review the price shown and confirm to receive a +256 number.
- Enter that number in the service and trigger the SMS.
- Watch the live inbox. Codes normally appear within a minute or two.
You have 20 minutes per number. A number that never receives a code costs you nothing, because the amount is returned to your wallet automatically.
Formatting a Ugandan mobile number correctly
Inside Uganda, mobile numbers are usually written with a leading zero, for example 07XX XXX XXX. That zero is a domestic prefix only.
When an app asks for an international number, drop the zero and put +256 in front: +256 7XX XXX XXX, which leaves nine digits after the country code. If the form has a separate country dropdown, choose Uganda there and type only the nine digits without the zero. Entering both the +256 and the zero is a frequent reason codes never get sent.
English is an official language and the usual language of verification texts, though some messages can follow the language setting of your account in the app.
No code yet? Try these fixes
- Wait out the window. Some services take longer than others to send.
- Check the format described above, especially the leading zero.
- Confirm the service accepts virtual numbers. Several deliberately do not, and that is why the automatic refund exists.
- Request a new number later. A different +256 number for the same service often works on a second attempt.
- Look at the account's country. If your account was created for another market, a code from a Ugandan number may not match what the service expects.
Requesting a Cloud Number in Uganda
The instant Cloud Number shelf holds three countries, the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and Uganda is not one of them. Uganda sits in the on-request group: choose Request another country in the dashboard, and our team will confirm whether a +256 number is available, what it costs, and whether local regulations call for an address or identity check before activation. The time this takes depends on the country and is not fixed.
After activation you can:
- Make and take calls from a desktop browser, no SIM required
- See incoming texts in your dashboard if the +256 number handles SMS
- Keep call logs and contacts in one place
- Forward calls to your mobile and collect voicemail
Plan details and renewal are explained on the pricing page.
Why people abroad want a Ugandan line
Ugandans living in the UK, the Gulf or North America often keep close ties with family and suppliers at home. A second phone number with a +256 prefix lets them stay reachable on a local-looking line without carrying a second handset.
Other common reasons:
- Regional businesses serving East Africa that want a contact number customers in Uganda recognize
- Developers testing how their app handles Ugandan number formats before launch
- Visitors and aid workers who want to keep a home number private during a stay
Teams covering the wider region can also look at Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Instant OTP works from anywhere and needs no local documents. A Cloud Number is on request, and our team will say if an address or ID check applies.
No. Use +256 followed by the nine remaining digits, and leave out the domestic leading zero.
Instant OTP starts from $0.20 per code for a one-time code. If you need a line for ongoing calls and texts, Cloud Numbers start from $1.95/month.
No. If no code reaches the number within 20 minutes, the full charge is refunded to your wallet automatically.
A Cloud Number is the right product for keeping one number over time, subject to WhatsApp's own terms and whether the number supports SMS. An Instant OTP number disappears after its one code, so it cannot carry an account forward.
